The Nursery
We are busy in the garden at nursery! Learning is fun outdoors and our outdoor space makes an exciting classroom!! We have lots of space to run, climb, jump... and we can build huge models, paint big pictures, and play in the band as loud as we can! We are growing plants from seed, keeping a watch on the changing weather, looking out for mini beasts.... We can dress up and be kings and queens, safari explorors, police officers and firefighters, or even mums and dads! We play games and ride our bikes, and practice kicking, catching and throwing balls of all different sizes...And then we are going to build a big den, and have a picnic(once we've made our own sandwiches!)....We've just got time, before we have to go home!

The Rabbits
Rabbits class have been discovering lots of things linked to a colour theme. Elmer the Elephant played a big part in our work and we read lots of stories about him and made up some of our own. We explored "The Jungle" and rescued a monkey in our outside play area. We had to follow clues and solve problems on the way. We are now looking forward to finding out about the countryside and will be visiting Ladyland Farm to find out about the animals that live there. We are becoming very good readers and are working hard with our handwriting. We enjoy using the ICT suite for finding out, using our maths programme and drawing. We have fun in Rabbits class.

In the Spring Term we enjoy making Easter Bonnets and Hot Cross Buns. In the Summer Tern we find out about the countryside and animals during our Farm visit and splash around exploring water and its many wonders. Personal, Social and Emotional Development; This is very important! We learn to play with others, share, take turns, what is right and what is wrong. We learn about our feelings and how others feel. The Squirrels
In Squirrel class we have fun learning about all kinds of interesting things. In the autumn we learnt about our bodies and made skeletons in DT. We joined the parts together using split pins so that they could move! We have also made models of houses and playgrounds. We brought in lots of old toys belonging to our parents and grandparents for our toy topic in History lessons.
In the spring we go for a walk around the village of Send looking at the different types of houses. We draw our own maps of our route and mark on it some of the things we have seen. We have had a 'Round the World' week and enjoyed finding out about other countries.
In the summer we have fun seeing who can grow the tallest sunflower. We also grow runner beans which grow really tall. We walk around our school field, looking for living and non-living things.

In Science we have learnt about our bodies as well as investigating light sources and things that move when we push or pull them. We enjoy taking Barnaby Bear home to visit our families and sharing our experience with our teacher. We have made all sorts of things including pop-up cards, model homes, playgrounds and moving skeletons! We have two PE lessons a week and we get to do games, gymnastics and dance.
Our classroom is really nice as it has an art area, role play area, construction corner and a computer area. We also have a courtyard where we can play in the sand and water trays. Next door is an ICT suit which we use every week.
We enjoy playtimes and like to play on the trim trail and adventure playground. We are looking forward to learning about our local area and homes around the world. Everyday we have a free piece of fruit which we really enjoy.

The Foxes
Autumn Term It is an exciting time - moving to a new class. We take time to get to know the rules and routines of Year 2. Our first topic is Transport. We look at transport through history and how it has changed and transport around the world. We learn about inventors and make our own transport model. The next topic is Fire. We learn all about the plotters in the Gunpowder Plot who tried to kill King James. We also find out how and why the Great Fire of London happened. We finish the term with Christmas. This is a great time when we learn lots about the traditions of Christmas in England and abroad. We enjoy lots of creative activities making cards, calendars, gift bags and food! The highlight of this term is the Christmas Play - we all have to learn our parts and the new songs ready to perform to all our family.
Spring Term A new year brings new topics and fun. We start this term with an appropriate topic for the time of year - the Cold. We learn about weather, temperature and how people in other countries survive. We focus on the Inuit in the Arctic and the scientists at the Antarctic. After half term we look at ourselves. Our new topic is Health and Growth. We learn all about what we need to live healthily and happily. We do experiments to see what happens to different food. We end this term with Easter. We learn about the Christian Easter story and traditions, as well as those around the world. We have an annual egg rolling competition and watch chicks hatch - a magical time.
Summer Term Our last term as Year 2's! We get out and about exploring in our first topic, the School Environment. We go bug hunting and data collecting. We do lots of observational drawings of our own surroundings as well as St Mary's Church and Tonbridge Castle that we visit. The Castles topic is great. We learn all about Motte and Bailey castles and the Battle of Hastings. It can get quite gory at times!
We finish the term with a special leaver's service where all our parents join us to celebrate the year. We are sad to leave but are looking forward to the next year in our new schools.
